Here is the action plan of this article to save time (for information about Ko Pha Ngan or Koh Phangan, it is the same):

  • How to get to Ko Pha Ngan from Koh Samui Island?
  • What to visit in Koh Phangan ?
  • O dormir à Ko Pha Ngan?

  • 100 baht = 2,5 €.

1) Visita Koh Phangan

Have you heard about the beautiful island of Ko Pha Ngan and want to visit Koh Phangan for 3 days? You are right, because Koh Phangan is really a very nice island and its beaches are really amazing.

Ko Phangan or Ko Pha Ngan is a small island located in the Gulf of Thailand, more precisely to the east of its peninsula. Located 40 minutes by boat from Koh Samui. On the island, it has 14.000 inhabitants. To get around on this island, it is best to rent a scooter on Koh Phangan, count 150 baths per day (or € 5), it's a gift! And you will see that they are really good!

Be careful though, the road is dangerous there so take your time (I saw more than one ruin your stay in Koh Phangan after goofing around on a scooter), you are on vacation so enjoy the scenery instead to play smart;)

/! Don't forget to take a photo of your scooter from all angles before using it ...

The island is a tourist destination known for its beaches, and for hosting the Koh Phangan Full Moon Party, a party that brings together a musical mix that takes place on Haad Rin beach, in the south of the island. But Ko Pha ngan is not just that, don't think that Ko Pha Ngan can only be visited for the full moon party, it would be a big mistake!

Ko Pha Ngan is full of little paradise beaches, little beach restaurants, markets ... it really is very nice scooter ride on Koh Phangan. And this is really the best way to visit Koh Phangan.

This is what I did on a scooter, and I don't think it took me all day. From Haad Rin to the magnificent Haad Than Sadet page (in the east), count 40 minutes by scooter (in cold mode). If you can also go to Tong Nai Pan Noi (not on the map below, but it is the beach that is a little further north from Haad Than Sadet), I did not, but apparently it is very friendly.

You can even rent a small bungalow on these beaches, I created an article to know where to stay in Koh Pha Ngan.

The environment is really nice:

Once there, you will find the only small restaurant that this lost beach has (take the grilled fish, a killer).

FYI I had to put my scooter 200m from the beach so don't worry if you see a small dam.

The day before, I had gone to Haad Khom beach (in the north), I count 1 hour by scooter from Haad Rin, that is, 30 minutes from Thong Sala port.

Here you will fall, but to go even further north, you will have to turn around and turn left to cross a river and thus be able to go behind the hill that you see in this photo:

The passage over the "river":

Continue until you have no more road. You will find a restaurant / bar with a large terrace (unfortunately I no longer have the photo of this establishment but it is really worth it). Anyway, feel free to put down your scooter and be curious, you can imagine that I could not do everything and that there are certainly other very nice little addresses that you go and contact me after your stay :)

The center filled up well, I went out and followed the coast to Thong Sala port. On the way, stop at Haad Yao La (west). In this Google map they call it “The beach is beautiful”, but its real name is Playa Secreta, you will love it!

This is what it looks like:

In short, the scooter in Koh Phangan is essential, so do not be afraid! They are also of good quality, they brake very well, they are very maneuverable and once again, nothing prevents you from taking your time! We're here to have fun, we're on vacation, shit !! :)

Hi coco, you are kind, but I won't have internet so I don't have GoogleMap to find me!

Yes it is, well, I have exactly what you need. This solution was given to me by a Quebecer whom I just met in Thailand. It is an application called Maps.me and it allows you to use a gps with a map (like the one above or below) without internet. The application loads the map of Koh Phangan (or another) and geolocates you without internet. This app is perfect and it works great.

Speaking of apps, I found that a lot of people use Tinder on the go. And it's not stupid at all! In fact, Tinder geolocates you and therefore allows you to meet people. For example, if you don't speak English, you can find French. You no longer see Tinder as a dating app, but more as a dating period! Think about it!

2) How to get to Koh Phangan from Koh Samui?

If you want to get to Ko Phangan directly from Koh Samui airport, know that there is nothing complicated. In fact, many taxis offer to take you directly to the port of the big Buddha 'Big Buddha Pier'. Count 100 bathrooms to reach this port.

The company I used is called SeaTran Discovery, of course you have others but this is the one I recommend. Count 200-300 baht to go to Ko Pha ngan. But you can also go directly to Ko Tao, on the other hand it is more expensive, it costs 500-600 baht (€ 10).

100 baht = 2,5 €.

You have the Speed Boat that allows you to get to Ko PhanGan from Koh Samui in 20 minutes, but it is much more expensive.

For my part, I had taken a flight from Krabi to Koh Samui. There are few flights between these two destinations, 2 flights per day, and it costs € 80 per ticket (in May). It's expensive but you save 10 hours on the road… Anyway, during my stay in Krabi, more exactly in Ao Nang, I forgot my passport in my hotel safe (the scam!). I was still able to take the plane by showing my identity card.

Once I got to the Big Buddha harbor, I met a manager 'Michele Lanari' from the ship transport company I told them about: 'Seatran Discovery'.

It seems to me that he is an Englishman living in Thailand as he speaks Thai fluently. All this to tell you, that this person called my hotel, explained my problem of loss of passport in Thailand and asked me to mail my passport directly to the address of the company which is located in Koh Phangan (in the port of Thong Sala).

I arrived on Friday and on Monday I found my precious passport. In short, here is my savior's card, it can help ...

Ps: Another contact that I was lucky to find is Andy Curt, he speaks French and lives in Koh Samui. If you have any problems here is your facebook page https://www.facebook.com/andy.curt.35

Back to our boat transfer to Ko PhanGan from Koh Samui!

Please note that you can arrive via Thong Sala port or Haad Rin port (where the full moon party takes place). But the ship does not go through both ports, it is one or the other, so check at the information point.

Anyway, it would be silly to wait another 2 hours just for the ferry to drop you off at your port. In fact, in each of these ports you will find taxis. For my part, I was staying in Haad Rin and arrived via the port of Thong Sala.

Tip: As soon as you get off the ship, you will find several taxis that will drop you off at Haad Rin by scooter for 500 baths. Do not use this solution. Keep walking with your large suitcase, and right after the entrance, you will find taxis that will ask for 200 baht to drop you there.

I think that the taxis that are in the port have to pay a fee to be the first to offer their service. Also, the road seems dangerous to me, so with luggage on a scooter ... forget it and take the taxi right at the entrance of the port;)

3) ¿Un dodo y Ko Pha Ngan?

Well, it depends on what you want to do! And suddenly I created an article just for that, so I advise you to take a look, because whether you are with family, with friends for the full moon party or as a couple ... Anyway, I'll tell you everything: Where stay in Koh Phangan.

Otherwise, you also have TripAdvisor! Take your time to compare.

4) Where to go out in Ko Phangan?

Are you looking for good addresses of restaurants in Koh Phangan, good addresses of bars in Koh Phangan? Here for you.

If you are looking for a super cool atmosphere with good music and the option to get a happy cigarette, I can only recommend going to the Amsterdam Bar:

A very good plan is also Eden, located on Yuan beach. To get there you have to take the boat from Haad Rin beach (full moon party). You will find many Thais who offer you to go there for 200-300 baths (it depends if there are people in the small boat).

Wait 10 minutes by boat and you will be at Eden Beach. Walk along the beach to the right and follow the wooden stairs until you find the Eden bar. Be careful, the return ends around 2am, so if you're not careful, you risk spending the night there (boats pick up at 9am).

Ideal if you are no longer 20 years old, if you go during the full moon and want to warm up a little earlier ...

/! Ships no longer sail after 2am, so don't be fooled. The boats resume service at 6 or 9, I think. In Eden you can also get some good cigarettes ...;)

Haad Rin's Reggae Bar is a very nice place, downstairs you have a pool table, upstairs is the living room. There you can also get some good cigarettes… It is at the entrance of the district of the full moon party. On the facade you will find a large lion's head.

The Jungle bar:

So I didn't, but apparently it's pretty good. The place looks nice when they have a party. Keep me informed if you have any information on this address.

After you don't have a club, there will be more bars that close at 2am. Northwest side, at Haad Yao beach, there is something to go out a bit for those who stay there.

5) One to Koh Tao from Koh Phangan

Koh Tao (Turtle Island) is 1h30 by boat from Koh Phangan, I highly recommend that you spend at least 1 night there in order to visit Koh Tao as it should be (which by the way is well known for diving). Also, if you are interested, here is a Frenchman who has created his diving company in Ko Tao, Aquatao.fr.

You can take the boat from Thong Sala or Haad Rin port, it's up to you. The first boat is at 9am, but ask anyway, times may change. Koh Tao has maintained a calm atmosphere, without too many tourists (for now). In ko Tao you will find many isolated beaches but also more touristy.

Diving schools to pass the diploma, ideal places for snorkeling (diving with fins, masks and snorkeling). Mango Bay (in the north of the island) is ideal for diving. You can also go to Hin Wong to find a good snorkeling spot. If you are looking for information on Shark Island, know that it is located in the south of Koh Tao.

It is in Mae Haat where you will arrive, in the east of the island, it is the port of the island. It is the most urbanized part of the island, so you will find a lot of restaurants, bars and hotels, but it is not the most beautiful part of the island.

You will also find trendy bars, scooters for rent on Koh Tao all over the island. In short, you have something to have a good time with.

On Koh Tao, the main beach on the island where resorts, restaurants and bars are disputed is called Sairee. Known for its orientation towards the setting sun, which I admit is quite elegant. You also have a magnificent beach, less touristy, it is Freedom Beach, located south of Koh Tao.

Sairee Beach is located 3 km north of the harbor. Mae Haat is the longest beach on Koh Tao, the atmosphere is quite young and festive (you will also find bars and restaurants). Avoid taking a hotel along the road, I do not find it very nice, rather opt for hotels / bungalows on the beach.

South of the port of Mae Haad, you have the Chalok beach, which is quieter. It is a meeting point for expats or long-term travelers. Also, the prices are lower than in Sairee.

Therefore, it is rather on the edge of Sairee beach that I advise you to stay to start, more exactly here:

You have the Marakarn hotel, which is cheap and well located.

6) Information on Koh Phangan Full Moon Party

First of all, but what is the full moon party?

Well, it is the full moon party, plus there is also the full moon, the half moon, the quarter moon, the black moon ... well, the Thais have perfumed businesses, so why celebrate only once a month? Moon! The atmosphere is quite young, I would say -35 years. Here is a short video presentation from a youtuber:

This interests you! Here are the dates of the next Ko Phangan full moon party ().

If you find the environment a bit young, you can (and I recommend) take a tour of Eden. To do so, take the boat from the beach for the full moon party and in less than 10 minutes you land on the Eden beach. Then go up to the right of the beach, you will find many bars, including the Eden bar, very nice to warm up;)

On the net, many Internet users advise taking care of their glasses, seeing that the full moon party is not worth it. Well, I do not agree, it is to be done and in fact it is better to be careful what you drink, but if you do nothing there is no reason for it to happen. wrong.

If you pay attention to this, I don't see how it could be dangerous. At the end of the beach (towards the north), you will find a quite nice bar, I advise you to take a look.

FYI, its ice cube filled basin is the best way to catch the tourist. Personally, I advise you to buy a bottle, soda and glasses to make your own mixes.

Koh Phangan's full moon party isn't just a beach, it's also the little alleys that run along the beach. You will find everything, shops, restaurants, bar, motorcycle rental, taxi, 7 Eleven ...

And then Ko Phangan isn't just that, so go ahead and make your own decision about this famous holiday. And as I told you before, you can very well go to Eden by boat (count from 200 to 300 bathrooms), the atmosphere is really very nice and fresh;)

During the Ko Phangan Full Moon Party, which takes place in Haad Rin, south of Ko Phangan, you will find everything you need for the party. I went there on Friday and the full moon party was on Saturday. Although the full moon party started on Saturday, Friday night was very cool. On the other hand, Sunday was really calmer.

/! Do not buy drugs on the streets, many tourists are deceived and in Thailand they do not laugh at it.

Well there you go, I think you have all the keys in hand to visit Ko Phangan in 3 days as it should be
