Discover the best things to do in New York during winter

Most tourists choose, or are forced, to visit New York City during the warmer months of the year or during major vacation periods, which can make it an expensive vacation destination. For tourists wishing to visit New York during the winter months (between December and March), you will be surprised to learn that a lot of fun events and activities take place during these months. As you know, it will be very cold and the climate will not be the best, but the city will have some nice surprises in store for you.

1. Explore the Christmas markets

New York particularly pleasant to visit during the winter season because many activities to do and especially to see are installed. Christmas markets flourish at this time. For my part, I like to stroll in the stands and look at the decorations! If you are passing through New York during the winter, then I advise you to go to the various New York Christmas markets such as The Holiday Shops near Bryant Park (November and December) or the Holiday Market in Union Square (December).

2. Put on skates on the ice rink at Rockfeler Center

You've probably seen a movie whose action takes place in New York, and where the protagonists skated on a crowded ice rink, and decorated with beautiful Christmas decorations. This fairytale ice rink was certainly that of Rockefeller Center. So take advantage of a nice family moment to put on the skates and take a ride on the ice in a magical setting. Whether you are young or old you will have fun.

Good to know: If, however, you don't want to find yourself skating in the middle of the crowds, you can instead opt for another ice rink in town, like Bryant Pond or Wollman Rink, in Central Park. It is possible to rent skates there.

2. Attend the Brooklyn Night Bazaar

One of the must-see winter events in Brooklyn is the Brooklyn Night Bazaar. It is a large night market which brings together all styles of artists: artisans, musicians, cooks etc. The Brooklyn Night Bazaar takes place every winter Friday and Saturday, ideal if you want to shop while listening to live music! You can also eat and drink there!

3. Go to warm up in the Arab baths of TriBeCa

In the middle of winter, there's nothing like being pampered in the warmth! I therefore suggest that you experience Aire Ancient Bath. This New York spa offers different styles of baths (jacuzzi, hot and cold baths, salt water bath, etc.), a hammam and even an optional massage service.

4. Go eat a fondue at Hudson Lodge

Decorated like a mountain chalet, this bar / restaurant at the Hudson Hotel offers delicious cheese and chocolate fondues! Perfect for a winter evening!

5. See the Grand Central Terminal light show

From the end of November to December 26, indulge yourself and attend a light show in Grand Central Terminal. New York's most famous train station offers you a light show every day between 17:00 p.m. and 23:00 p.m. This "light show" on the walls of the main hall is a nice moment. Every half hour, the walls light up around for 6 minutes. I therefore advise you to go for a walk in Grand Central Terminal during this time slot.
